… and Take Control.

What does a $7.7-million buy-back son of two Horses of the Year have to do get a little attention around here?

Like me, you may have been surprised to notice Take Control, the son of A.P. Indy and Azeri, entered in the Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita as he hasn’t raced since last July. What kind of injury did he have? What has he been up to? Let’s see what we can find out…

Brisnet Handicappers’ Edge:
“Baffert is also responsible for Grade 1 victor Liaison, who exits a third in the August 31 Harry F. Brubaker at Del Mar, and lightly-raced comebacker Take Control. The first foal out of 2002 Horse of the Year Azeri, Take Control will be making his first appearance since a fourth in the 2012 San Diego.”

Blood-Horse:
“Baffert also has Kaleem Shah’s Take Control, who would be making just his fourth start and his first since finishing a close fourth in the 2012 San Diego. Rosie Napravnik has the call.”

DRF – Privman:
“Baffert also sends out Liaison, third in the Brubaker at Del Mar last time out, and the fragile Take Control, a well-bred (A.P. Indy-Azeri) 6-year-old who has not raced since July 2012 and has competed a mere three times.”

DRF – Anderson:
“You Know I Know is part of an Awesome Again field expected to include Chief Havoc, Holy Lute, Liaison, Mucho Macho Man, Paynter, Soi Phet, Summer Hit, and Take Control.”

Sure, there are plenty of story lines on this, one of the few weekends of the year where horses tend to face one another, but it would be nice to hear a little back story. We can certainly infer that he’s fragile (as mentioned by Privman in one of the above blurbs) but I guess this Tweet sums it up best:

At least if he wins we’ll hear a lot more about it, or at least his stud plans!
